Match to be played on Tuesday 28th January 2014 at 20:00. Venue: Anfield, Liverpool.
Everton have had mixed fortunes over the weekend and this morning, with pieces of extremely good and bad news.
The bad news is that Bryan Oviedo, one of the club’s best players this season, suffered that broken leg at Stevenage while the good news comes in the form of Leighton Baines signing a new deal at Goodison Park.
Everton face a huge trip to Anfield tomorrow night and here’s the side Roberto Martinez may select.
GK – Tim Howard
Joel played well against Stevenage but the American is the side’s number one and he’ll come back in, promising a commanding performance.
RB – Seamus Coleman
Coleman wasn’t risked against Stevenage, probably with this game in mind. He’s had a slight hamstring problem but should come back into the side if he’s anything close to being fit.
CB – Sylvain Distin
Distin is another Everton star who missed the Stevenage game with a slight knock. He’ll go straight back in if Martinez thinks he’s worth the risk, with his vast experience an unmistakable asset.
CB – Phil Jagielka
Jagielka did play against Stevenage but was taken off with a hamstring problem, missing half the game. It seemed like a precaution on the part of Martinez so fingers crossed he’ll be ready to start.
LB – Leighton Baines
Baines will be happy now his contract situation has been sorted out. He should be determined to get his head down and work hard for the club in this game and the rest of the season.
RM – Aiden McGeady
McGeady will be encouraged to use his pace and skill on the ball out wide, especially when Everton have the chance to counter attack. Expect him to really get at the Liverpool left-back throughout the game.
CM – Gareth Barry
Barry will be the player who sits just in front of the back four, offering protection and trying to control the game. He’ll push up when he has the chance to do so.
CM – James McCarthy
McCarthy will try to pull the strings and get on top of Liverpool’s influential midfield men. He’s very good at linking up the various sections of the team.
AM – Kevin Mirallas
The temptation for Martinez with Oviedo out will be to switch Mirallas to a wider position. However, he’s been in great form in an attacking midfield area, where he can roam constantly.
LM – Leon Osman
Osman will most likely be the man coming back into the side for Oviedo. He’s held a left midfield role already this season for the club and has the experience needed to control his side of the pitch.
ST – Romelu Lukaku
Lukaku will be fresh and he should be itching to lead the attack. He has plenty of ability and will be able to give Liverpool numerous headaches.
