Fulham reportedly want former Real Madrid player to improve attacking options

Fulham are reportedly lining up a loan move for Valencia play-maker Sergio Canales.

It's no secret that Fulham boss Rene Meulensteen has been trying to strengthen his squad this month, but has not succeeded in any of his attempts yet bar the return of Clint Dempsey.

A lot of their transfer bids and negotiations have been made public. With bids being rejected for Ravel Morrison, Neil Taylor and Liam Moore.

It has been a tough month for Meulensteen, along with the numerous knock backs regarding transfers, results have also been disappointing.

A 2-1 win at the start of the month against West Ham United was a huge victory, but on Sunday they failed to beat League One side Sheffield United to progress to the fifth-round of the FA Cup. Darren Bent and Hugo Rodallega missed a hatful of chances in that match, and Meulensteen may be looking to add quality to that area.

The Mirror have today linked the Cottagers with Sergio Canales of Valencia. The Spanish side are reportedly happy to see him leave on loan as they hope that will then put him in the shop window for a permanent move in the future.

Canales is still only 22-years-old and was highly tipped as one of the rising starts in Europe when he joined Real Madrid in 2010. He only lasted a year at Madrid though and then joined Valencia on loan for two seasons, before making the move permanent in 2012. His time at the club has been interrupted with severe injuries though, and he has failed to have a consistent run of games.

Everton were also linked with the player last week but it now seems Fulham are the favourites to sign up the Spaniard on loan.
