Liverpool news: Scouts watch teenager in Spain, build up ahead of crucial derby match

A selection of the latest stories involving Liverpool Football Club this Monday morning

Liverpool had scouts in Spain last night to watch Rayo Vallecano midfielder Saul Niguez against Atletico Madrid last night according to the Daily Mail.

The Reds have been linked with the 19-year-old over the weekend, and played at centre-back during Vallecano’s 4-2 defeat to Atletico Madrid. Unfortunately for Niguez he put through his own net as he played out of position.

Much of the Liverpool news this morning is all about the build up to tomorrow night’s huge Merseyside derby against Everton.

Defender Kolo Toure told the Liverpool Echo that a win could have a huge impact on the rest of the league campaign, which is why the Reds have to win.

Toure said: ‘The top four is where we want to be. We’re there now but we will only stay there if we win this game.

‘Our target is to be up there and we want those three points. At home we have a very good record and we want to keep that going. Winning this game will be very important for months to come.

Midfielder Jordan Henderson also said that finishing in the top four would be a good achievement this season – and has said he can’t wait for the crucial encounter against Everton.

‘We are not easy to play against and we hate losing. So we just have to keep that going and keep it as it is. The top four is what we want to achieve. We’ve got to have that mentality going into every game, wanting to win and believing we can.

‘I’ve been here quite a long time now and I feel at home and I want to be emotionally attached to Liverpool and want to do my best for the club and don’t want to lose, especially in derbies.'
