German legend backs Arsenal and Chelsea striker target to join Dortmund

Lothar Matthaus has backed Adrian Ramos to move to Borussia Dortmund.

Chelsea and Arsenal may still be harbouring hopes of making a striker signing this week, as each London club could still use support and additional firepower up front.

One player it’s unlikely to be is Hertha Berlin’s Adrian Ramos, the joint top scorer in the Bundesliga.

German legend Lothar Matthaus has suggested the Colombian will be targeted by Jurgen Klopp at Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season, which makes a move from either of the London giants this week unlikely.

“Dortmund looking for a successor for Robert Lewandowski. Adrian Ramos has one more year left on his contract. Jürgen Klopp is a big fan of his. I am confident that he will succeed Lewandowski,” said Matthaus according to Bild.

Lewandowski’s decision to switch to Bayern Munich at the end of the season was always going to place pressure on Klopp to make a sensible and efficient signing to come into his attack.

It’s no surprise that he’s being linked with someone who has proven to be successful in the Bundesliga, working hard in a lower profile team.

Unfortunately for Chelsea and Arsenal, it wipes out their chances of picking up a talented striker in what would have been a good value for money transfer.

The comments from Matthaus certainly won’t stop the rumour mill from spinning round this week but it’s looking more likely that each London side will wait until the summer, before spending big for that superstar striker.
