Negotiations between Tottenham and Napoli over midfielder Étienne Capoue have been lengthy and laborious, but they may be entering a decisive phase.
Napoli are keen to add the French international to their ranks to strengthen a squad that has started to lose momentum in recent weeks.
The Partenopei have a decent budget for signings in the winter window and have already pounced for Verona star Jorginho, who was allegedly a target for Chelsea and Manchester United.
But attempts to sign Capoue from Spurs have been less successful so far with Napoli sporting director Riccardo Bigon's offers so far being rebuffed.
Tottenham are said to want close to £12m for Capoue while Napoli are only willing to bid closer to £8m.
The Azzurri are believed to be seeking a meeting with Capoue's agent to try and exert pressure on Tottenham as the player is widely reported to be keen on the move, but if that fails then Bigon may look elsewhere.
Having seen their bids for Lyon star Maxime Gonalons rejected definitively, Napoli's new target is Corinthians man Ralf.
Corinthians have rejected Napoli's attempt to take the 29-year-old on loan, but a permanent deal would be cheaper than Capoue.
