Can Mata have the Ozil effect at Manchester United?

Will Mata’s arrival at Old Trafford breathe new life into United’s season?

Juan Mata completed his move from Chelsea to Manchester United on Saturday in what is a major coup for the Red Devils.

United broke their club-record transfer fee to bring in the Spaniard for £37.1m and David Moyes will be more than happy to welcome Mata’s creativity to his struggling United side.

Jose Mourinho confirmed on Friday that Juan Mata was “really happy to go” to Manchester United, after three successful seasons with Chelsea.

The 25-year old Spain international is exactly what Manchester United require, as the lack of creativity from midfield has been noticeably absent all season.

Although Mata’s addition is just one problem solved, Moyes will be hopeful that he can bring the ‘Ozil-effect’ that the German delivered when moving to Arsenal on deadline day.

Arsenal were lifted as a football club following Ozil’s £42.5m move from Real Madrid, as the move brought confidence back into the North-London side, who still remain top of the Premier League.

In August, few would have predicted that Wenger’s side would be top at the end of January, but the Ozil transfer sent a positive message out of just how much ambition the club had, and the players have responded.

Juan Mata’s arrival at Old Trafford could well do the exact same thing, as the reigning Premier League champions are currently short of confidence from anywhere in the football club.

The Spaniard’s arrival is a sign of the club backing Moyes, and the players will be delighted to welcome such a talented player into the dressing room.

Mata has only made 13 league appearances at Chelsea this season, as he has struggled to implement his way into Jose Mourinho’s first-team plans.

However, he has still managed to create 30 chances in that time, and has completed 88% of his passes.

His ability to create chances from anywhere on the field will be immediately evident at United, and he will be hoping to build on his 18 goals and 27 assists in the Premier League, with United since joining Chelsea in 2011.

Mata could make his debut on Tuesday night, as United take on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's’ Cardiff City and David Moyes has promised more signings will be made.

Manchester United still need more additions to make the side strong title-contenders once again, mostly in defensive areas.

Though the arrival of Mata will undoubtedly bring some much needed confidence back to the club, as they look to climb the Premier League table quickly. The 'Ozil effect' could be just the magic David Moyes needs to save the club's flagging season.
