Gareth Bale was on the receiving end of a crude tackle from Granada defender Jeison Fabian Murillo
Real Madrid star Gareth Bale became the most expensive footballer on the planet following his reported €100m move to Madrid from Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur.
As the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Angel Di Maria have experienced in the past, fellow La Liga defenders have often left a foot in or thrown up the odd bad challenge as they look to stop their superiors whilst in full flow.
However, Granada’s Jesion Fabian Murillo has taken these dirt-tactics to a whole new level.
The visitors had been organised, rugged and defensively solid during a first half which restricted Los Blancos to very few clear-cut chances as the teams left the field for half-time with the scores 0-0.
Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti will have implored his side at half-time to get his rich attacking options Benzema, Ronaldo, Bale and Di Maria more involved in the game. Yet, within minutes of the second-half that became impossible for one as Murillo’s woeful attempt to tackle Bale left the Welshman in such agony he had to be immediately substituted
The former Spurs man was replaced by youngster Jese Rodriguez and within ten minutes Real Madrid finally took the lead through Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo. French international Karim Benzema also added to the score sheet as the 2-0 victory sends Real Madrid to the top of La Liga for the first time this season.
As for Bale, it remains uncertain whether the injury is likely to side-line him for a lengthy period of time, and whilst it may be one of those comical incidents for the supporters we can only hope for both Bale and Mrs Bale that the incident hasn’t caused any serious damage.
