So it is now official … Juan Mata is a Manchester United player after his £37.1 million move from Chelsea was confirmed late last night.
The deal has been turned around reasonably quickly. With United happy to spend and Chelsea keen to sell it was a no-brainer in truth - and the obligatory helicopter arrival shits first started filtering through to Twitter yesterday afternoon.
Mata has said of the move - in his first interview as a Manchester United player:
“I am thrilled to be joining. United is the perfect place for me. Today is a very happy day … it's a massive club and I feel very proud to be here."
But Twitter played a huge role in this transfer … in fact, I would go as so far to say it has been the most Tweet friendly transfer of the social networking era so far.
Fans, journalists and pro’s alike were all refreshing their news feeds and typing in ‘Mata’ in the search bar for three days - as they hoped to get a look at Mata arriving at Carrington or adorning a United shirt.
And the man himself has no got involved in the action.
Mata took to the site on his official account last night to speak of his future - and to also thank the Chelsea fans for what was for him, a very successful stint in South London - winning the Champions League, Europa League and FA Cup with the club, as well as Player of the Year two years running.
Here are his Tweets in question...
