Manchester United have already benefited considerably from the loan system this season – with the likes of Nick Powell, Jesse Lingard and Marnick Vermijl thriving in their temporary new surroundings.
And the latest young player to try his hand elsewhere is Jack Barmby, the son of former Tottenham, Everton and Liverpool midfielder Nick Barmby.
United offered professional terms to the young forward last summer, and the England under-19 international has now been sent to Hartlepool to continue his footballing education.
It could not have gone much better for the 19-year-old on Saturday, as he came off the bench to score the second goal in the League Two side’s 2-0 victory at home to York City.
Barmby is predominantly a left-sided midfielder, although he can also play in a more attacking position and has an eye for goal.
That was proved on Saturday, and while he may have only got 11 minutes on the pitch, if he keeps going at this rate he could soon find himself starting for his temporary club.
