Every morning we bring you a round-up of the latest transfer news relating to Manchester United, and this weekend was no exception. To read our United-specific transfer news you can find our Saturday report here and our Sunday report here.

The big news of the weekend was that United completed the club-record £37.1million signing of Juan Mata.

The Spaniard becomes David Moyes’ second signing since he officially took over from Sir Alex Ferguson, but according to the Scot, Mata’s arrival is only the beginning.

In quotes published by the BBC, Moyes said, “This is the first, and there will be many more to come in time. I want to build an exciting team.

“I don’t think we will have any more in January. I’m still working on it and looking to do so.

Hopefully it will be the first of some new signings who will arrive more likely in the summertime.”

While he says that, one senses that he may still spring a surprise before the close of business next Friday. But even if he does not, the arrival of Mata is a huge boost for a side in desperate need of a player of his talent and creativity.

While one player has arrived at Old Trafford, two look set to leave, with the Independent reporting that Fabio and Wilfried Zaha are close to finally completing their moves to Cardiff City.

The report claims the Brazilian defender is likely to join the Bluebirds in a permanent deal, while the England winger will join on loan.
