Liverpool transfer news: £12.4m midfielder linked and Niguez latest

A select round-up of transfer news relating to Liverpool

The injury to Liverpool midfielder Lucas always suggested the Reds would attempt to do some late January business, and the Sunday Times has linked them with a move for Benfica midfielder Andre Gomes.

The report claims Brendan Rodgers sees the player as a good fit in his side’s playing style, but given that Nemanja Matic has only recently left for Chelsea it is unlikely Benfica will sell another such player unless the offer is too good to refuse.

That said, the Portuguese club reportedly want £12.4million for the 20-year-old.

In other news, the Sunday People reports that Liverpool have held “secret talks” with Saul Niguez’s father; so secret, in fact, that they have now found their way into a national newspaper.

The Atletico Madrid midfielder, who is currently on loan at Rayo Vallecano, is reportedly attracting a lot of interest in this transfer window, and the Reds will do very well to sign him given the number of clubs said to be considering a move.
