'Don't get used to it' - Chelsea star Cole Tweets on his starting place v Stoke

Ashley Cole doesn't seem to think his start against Stoke is some sort of turn around in his fortunes this season.

Chelsea defeated Stoke City 1-0 at Stamford Bridge today - to advance to the next round of the FA Cup.

The result was very lenient on Stoke City as Chelsea missed two open goals, hit the post twice and completely dominated from start to finish against a Potter side with little impetus or verve in attack.

Jose Mourinho took the opportunity to field a strong, but mixed side.

Mark Schwarzer played in goal, while David Luiz slipped into the defence. Nemanja Matic made his second debut for the club and Andre Schurrle got a run-around - so it really proved a good exercise for Mourinho and co.

Another player who got the chance to shine after a difficult period out of the team was Ashley Cole.

Cole, who Mourinho got into deep trouble with the FA to sign from Arsenal, is not part the Portuguese’s first-team plans at this moment in time. Instead Cesar Azpilicueta, normally a right-back, has been preferred in that position after a couple of below par performances from the veteran full-back.

Today Cole looked back to something near his best - and Chelsea fans were keen to tell him all about it via Twitter.

Where Cole, something of an expert of putting his foot in his mouth, did it again… by responding like this…

Now Cole likely just meant it as a joke - and a joke it clearly is.

But it is certainly going to be read in the wrong way by the majority and the sense of this response in the public domain makes little or no sense.

On this occasion he would have done better to put down the smartphone.
