Following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s arrival at Cardiff City, he was linked with a whole host of current and former Manchester United players. And while he has been successful in bringing some to the Bluebirds, one that has so far proved elusive is Mame Biram Diouf.
The striker has blossomed since he swapped Old Trafford for Hannover, but while his goal-scoring record has reportedly attracted the interest of a number of clubs both in England and elsewhere, Diouf proved on Saturday that he is just as comfortable setting up chances as he is finishing them off himself.
Yesterday his side travelled to Wolfsburg, who are enjoying an impressive Bundesliga campaign. But that enjoyment was put on hold as Diouf set up the first two goals for Hannover in their 3-1 victory.
Reports earlier this month claimed Solskjaer would be unable to bring the front-man back to England due to Hannover’s failure to secure a suitable replacement. And given his impact in Germany, it is no surprise they do not want to part with him unless they are well covered in the striking positions.
Diouf now has five goals and four assists for the season, and while that is some way short of his impressive tally of 17 strikes and eight assists in the previous campaign, he is certainly a player Cardiff could do with.
With a few days of the transfer window still to go, who knows?
