Arsenal transfer news: Liverpool 'favourites' for Spanish starlet; Zelalem to get pro-deal today?

Gedion Zelalem

All the latest transfer news and gossip from The Emirates this morning.

An internal transfer first - as Arsenal look set to give Gedion Zelalem a first pro-contract at the club today.

Zelalem turns 17 today - and after making his debut against Coventry City in the FA Cup on Friday night he is set to sign on the dotted line of his first pro-deal.

Considered the club’s hottest prospect since Cesc Fabregas he has been said to have the ‘dribbling of Iniesta and the passing of Xavi’ and is a massive prospect for The Gunners.

The signing of his professional deal will ensure he stays at the club for the foreseeable future and fend off any interest from foreign parties.

It may also be the start of a breakout 2014 for the talented midfielder.

It is still all about one name in the Arsenal transfer columns - Julian Draxler.

Despite Arsene Wenger continually denying any interest in the German youngster it seems the press simply don’t believe the Frenchman.

It is said they are still pursuing a deal in the region of £30 million for the player.

It comes amid claim and counter-claim over the Gunners interest and Schalke’s willingness to sell.

Liverpool are now said to be the favourites to sign young Spanish midfielder Saul Niguez.

Arsenal were previously believed to be the front-runners to snap up the Atletico Madrid man - currently on loan at Rayo Vallecano.

But Liverpool are said to be in the running now - for a player rated at £12 million by his parent club.

One Arsenal youngster who could be leaving is German defender Leander Siemann.

The former Hertha Berlin youngster joined Arsenal in 2011 - but the 18-year-old has struggled to make his mark in recent weeks.

He could be on his way back home after a trial period with VfL Bochum.
