Given the imminent arrival of Robert Lewandowski at Bayern Munich, the German champions’ current striker Mario Mandzukic has found his future thrown into some doubt.
The latest quotes from his club’s honorary president Franz Beckenbauer suggested he could be on the move next summer, the German legend agreeing that the Croatian could be packing his bags.
Given the uncertainty over his future, it was no surprise that other clubs’ names were thrown into the hat, with David Moyes reportedly scouting the striker on a recent trip to Germany, and Arsenal also said to be considering a move.
Well now another club have reportedly entered the fray – in the form of La Liga champions Barcelona.
According to the Catalan press, in reports later picked up by Portuguese newspaper A Bola, the Spanish club are closely following Mandzukic’s situation in Germany.
The striker has had an impressive campaign up to now, scoring 10 goals in 16 Bundesliga matches, and netting twice in four Champions League appearances. But once Lewandowski arrives, that could be a different story.
So if Arsenal and United really are interested, they may have to act before a certain Spanish club make their move.
