The one other Italian international West Ham should target

Should West Ham follow up the deals for Antonio Nocerino and Marco Borriello with a move for Mattia De Sciglio?

West Ham United have today taken big strides toward their survival - by bringing in AC Milan midfielder Antonio Nocerino on loan until the end of the season.

The Rossoneri have just snapped up Michael Essien from Chelsea - and were keen to allow Nocerino to exit the club after a season of poor form for the Italian international.

But he is undoubtedly a player of genuine class and the impact he might have on the team should not be underestimated.

But he is not the only Italian international who looks set to be arriving at the club this month - as AS Roma striker Marco Borriello has travelled to London to finalise a loan spell until the end of the campaign.

His arrival will add genuine quality to the attacking department where the Hammers are currently struggling for numbers.

But should they stop there?

There is one player - also at AC Milan - who would be perfect for the season run-in and who has not been a regular at the San Siro so far this season.

21-year-old defender Mattia De Sciglio has eight caps for his country since making his debut for the Azzurri back in March 2013 against Brazil.

This season he has suffered with injury problems and only played in seven Serie A games for the club this season.

Comfortable at right-back and on the left - he would add great strength in depth to the full-back positions with the likes of Razvan Rat, George McCartney, Joey O’Brien and Guy Demel all not catching fire with their performances this term.

It would be a coup, and it depends on how much of a role Clarence Seedorf sees the young man playing at the club.

But if Big Sam can call in a few favours and push for the 21-year-old he might just be the missing piece of the survival puzzle.
