Sunderland weigh-in for Manchester United midfield solution – report

Gus Poyet’s men have been linked with a move for highly rated Valencia playmaker Ever Banega, who is also on David Moyes’ radar.

Sunderland have got one over Manchester United already this week by knocking the Premier League champions out of the Capital One Cup to make the final of the competition.

And it appears that Gus Poyet’s men are ready to try and get another one-up on the Old Trafford outfit – by signing a player that has been linked to United and could well be the solution to their lack of creativity in midfield.

According to Sky Sports, the Stadium of Light side are in negotiations to bring Argentina international Ever Banega to Wearside.

With the South American’s club Valencia in financial strife, their prize assets are reportedly up for sale, and Banega represents arguably the Mestalla outfit’s most technically gifted player.

Both Manchester United and Tottenham have been linked with the 24-times capped Argentine over the last couple of months, with David Moyes thought to have weighed up Banega as a solution to his lack of guile in the centre of the park.

Poyet clearly has a penchant for players from the South American nation, with Banega’s countrymen goalkeeper Oscar Ustari and central defender Santiago Vergini both joining Sunderland this month.

Despite this, to land the Valencia star would be quite the transfer coup for the struggling Wearsiders, as Banega is certainly in the running for Argentina’s World Cup squad and one of the best number tens in La Liga on his day.
