Players from a variety of nations may be joining Mark Hughes' Stoke development project
A week ahead of the transfer deadline there are as many rumoured outgoings as there are incomings, with Mark Hughes looking to refine the Stoke squad.
Below are some of the stories that have caught our eyes over the last few days:
Chievo defender set to join?
According to Talksport, Senegal left-back Boukary Drame could be about to leave Serie A outfit Chievo, with Stoke one of a number of clubs linked to the 28-year-old. With his contract due to expire in the summer, the Italians may look to let him leave for a small fee now rather than lose him for nothing at the end of the season. After making just a handful of appreances for the Verona club he is unlikely to be missed too much.
Offer made for Inter starlet Icardi
Young Argentinian forward Mauro Icardi, who joined Inter Milan at the start of the season after spells at Sampdoria and Barcelona, is being pursued by the Potters after failing to establish himself at the San Siro.
Sportmediaset disclosed details of an attempt by a Stoke official to sign the youngster, who has scored 2 goals in 8 Series A games, on loan for the rest of the season. The offer was knocked back though, as the European giants feel a player who made his international debut for Argentina last year at the age of 20, may have something to offer the second half of their season.
Haggling for Holtby
It looks like Lewis Holtby may have caught Mark Hughes' eyes as he looks to leave White Hart Lane. The German, who has 3 goals this year, had looked like joining former club Schalke for much of the window, but with a transfer yet to materialise, Stoke may be about to make a move according to the Daily Mail, though any transfer would depend on the player's asking price.
There are plenty of players rumoured to be on their way out of the Britannia Stadium in the next few days. Jermaine Pennant has already had his contract terminated according to the Stoke Sentinel. The winger leaves after three and a half years at Stoke ahead of his contract expiring in the summer.
