Spurs after striker starlet who scored FOUR against Milan in last game

Goalscoring sensation Domenico Berardi could be the next big Serie A arrival at White Hart Lane

With Jermain Defoe due to leave the club in February, Tottenham are rumoured to be close to signing Juventus striker Domenico Berardi, who is co-owned by Sassuolo.

At just 19-years-old Berardi is one of the greatest attacking hopes in Italian football. He signed co-ownership terms with Juventus in the summer after a fantastic first professional season at minnows Sassuolo - where he scored 11 goals in their successful promotion campaign.

The promise displayed by the young frontman convinced Juve to link up with the player, though they allowed him to remain at Sassuolo for one more year, their first ever in Serie A.

And Berardi has responded with a quite astounding spell of form. Despite Sassulo predictably struggling in the Italian top flight, currently occupying the final relegation place, their young striker has amassed 11 goals in just 15 games, and is second place in the league's scoring charts.

Amazingly, that puts him ahead of Gonzalo Higuain and Mario Balotelli and level with Carlos Tevez.

This form hasn't gone unnoticed outside of Italy, especially after Berardi hit FOUR goals against AC Milan two weeks ago, the first time a player has ever done so. The Metro reports that Tim Sherwood has targeted the Italian to join his challenge on the Champions League places as a replacement for Jermain Defoe.

Franco Baldini will likely be using his contacts to ensure the club get in ahead of rival suitors, with Barcelona, Manchester United and Manchester City all said to be keeping an eye on the player, and with Tottenham the place Berardi will find the most game time, it is thought an offer of around £15 million may see him end up at White Hart Lane.
