Manchester United look close to sealing the signature of Juan Mata from Chelsea in a new club record deal, but another potential attacking target who has been consistently linked with the Old Trafford club this week has been Edinson Cavani.
The Paris Saint-Germain striker is thought to have captured David Moyes’ gaze, with talk of a mega-million offer in the British press.
However, with the Uruguay international playing regularly at the Parc des Princes after moving to France from Napoli in the summer, a move to England always seemed doomed.
PSG coach Laurent Blanc has put an end to speculation over Cavani, by claiming that it would be impossible for the Premier League leaders to sign him in the next week.
"You cannot prevent that some club is interested in PSG players, as we are interested in many players,” the former United defender claimed at a press conference.
"But today, it is almost impossible to take a major PSG player during the winter market."
With the addition of Mata and the potential return to fitness of both Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney, just where Cavani would have fitted into the equation remains to be seen.
Moyes has other areas that he needs to strengthen, and as such the likelihood of any strikers moving to Old Trafford in the near future is minimal.
