Arsene Wenger has turned Robin Van Persie and Thierry Henry into strikers ... could he do the same with Julian Draxler.
The Schalke 04 player has been consistently linked with a move to The Emirates in recent weeks and reports in Germany claim that a £36 million fee has been agreed for the talented attacker.
Arsene Wenger has remained coy on the subject when pressured by the media - but despite that it is being said that a deal will be done before Friday.
"That is an illusion. There is nothing happening, honestly no. We don't need to take players on the flanks - we have 17 players on the flanks."
Wenger then seems to be pretty categoric on the subject. He has now called Draxler reports an ‘illusion’ and ‘like UFO’s’ so that is likely to be the end of it.
Accept it isn’t.
Because Arsenal reportedly don’t want Draxler as an attacking midfielder - apparently Wenger reckons he can turn him into a striker.
Robin van Persie arrived from Feyenoord predominantly as a left-winger, while Thierry Henry was previously playing wing-back at Juventus before Arsenal snapped him up.
Combined those two went on to score 360 goals for the club - so Wenger has success in this field.
And one fan who is adamant Draxler could join that club is Piers Morgan.
He is of the belief that Arsenal need one more marquee signing to win the Premier League and Draxler should be that man.
He even found his words falling on listening ears, as Arsenal’s correspondent from The Mirror John Cross agreed with the divisive.
Here are the Tweets…
Van Pursestrings was an attacking midfielder when we signed him... Wenger can do the same with Draxler. Very similar players. #Afc— Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) January 25, 2014
@piersmorgan You're spot on - all the attributes. Power, pace, goals, technique. He'd also give club such a lift for run-in.— John Cross (@johncrossmirror) January 25, 2014
