The Mirror reported earlier this week that Manchester United may still be able to pull off a deal for Atletico Madrid star despite the 22-year-old Spaniard recently signing a new deal with the club.
United were thought to be ready with a bid of around €24 million for the attacking midfielder and he showcased his form and skill perfectly last night as he provided the assist for Atletico Madrid’s only goal in a 1-0 win against Athletic Bilbao in the Copa del Rey.
The assist was a pure example of the perfect ball to deliver into the penalty area from the right hand side; enough pace to make the header easy for the player attacking, but the right position to stop the goalkeeper from coming out to collect the ball.
What’s even more remarkable about is that he’s not a winger but someone more effective through central positions as his nine assists in La Liga and single assist in the Champions League this season prove.
Although Spanish paper El Confidencial has said his new contract doesn’t mean a great deal, it will still take an almighty effort and sequence of events for Moyes to pull off a deal before the close of play this time next week.
