Atletico Madrid show support to a former star following his recent injury setback.
As Atletico Madrid prepared to defend their Copa Del Rey title against Basque side Athletic Bilbao in the Vincente Calderon stadium, the Rojiblancos had time to show support to former Colombian star Radamel Falcao.
The current Monaco player who moved to Ligue 1 for a reported fee of €60m suffered a terrible looking knee ligament injury during his side’s 3-0 cup victory over Minnows Chasselay.
The Daily Mail report that the injury is cruciate ligament damage, with a Monaco statement reporting:
'Following the injury suffered on Wednesday, Radamel Falcao has had medical tests. It appears that the player has a lesion of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.
'An operation will be necessary in the coming days. The doctors will therefore make every effort to allow Radamel Falcao to recover as quickly as possible.'
The injury has notably made the headlines back in Colombia, as it’s more than likely that the former Atletico Madrid striker will be ruled out of this summer’s World Cup.
It would be a tragedy for all involved as no one wants to see the World’s leading players miss out on football’s ultimate competition.
The support showed has been overwhelming, not least by Diego Simeone’s troops.
Pre kick-off, during the traditional team photos, the Atleti stars wore red T-shirts bearing with the words ‘Fuerza Tigre’. These Spanish words translate to ‘Tiger Force’ in recognition of Falcao’s commonly used nickname ‘the tiger’.
For football’s sake, let’s hope that Falcao makes a speedy recovery and is able to show us what he is capable of in Brazil this summer.
