Toby Alderweireld

AC Milan, Spartak Moscow, Atletico Madrid, Hamburg and Salzburg stars all feature.

Liverpool may have missed out on signing Mohamed Salah to Chelsea, but Brendan Rodgers’ club have been linked with several other top players this week as the boss looks to sure up his squad.

Liverpool remain in a good position to secure Champions League football by the end of the campaign, which makes it crucial Rodgers can add players to key areas of the squad.

Here are the top five players Liverpool have been linked with this week.

1) Nigel de Jong (AC Milan)

A seemingly perfect replacement for the injured Lucas, Liverpool have been strongly linked with a move for the former Manchester City holding midfielder. However, ESPN has reported ‘sources’ have told them Liverpool won’t move for the Dutch star.

2) Romulo (Spartak Moscow)

Arsenal, Chelsea and Barcelona have all previously scouted the 23-year-old Brazilian but it may be Liverpool who area ready to move with an offer to his Russian employers. Spartak are believed to want around £10 million.

3) Toby Alderweireld (Atletico Madrid)

The Belgian will be familiar to a lot of Liverpool fans as they were strongly linked with a move for him last summer. He snubbed an Anfield switch to move to Atletico Madrid where he’s made just three La Liga appearances this season, prompting suggestions Liverpool may take another look at signing him.

4) Hakan Calhanoglu (Hamburg)

Calhanoglu was suggested as a possible attacking reinforcement for Liverpool this month but the ‘new Ozil’ looks set for an extended stay at Hamburg. TalkSport reported earlier this week that despite the club’s interest, he’s set for a new £1.2 million deal at his current side.

5) Valon Berisha (Salzburg)

Several papers have reported that Liverpool are in talks with FC Salzburg over the sale of 20-year-old midfielder Valon Berisha. Liverpool representatives watched the youngster as Salzburg defeated Bayern Munich in a recent friendly.
