The top five players linked with signing for Arsenal this week: Martinez, Draxler and more

Arsene Wenger Looks On

FC Porto, FC Schalke, Juventus, Newcastle United and Barcelona stars all feature.

Arsene Wenger said yesterday that the Gunners were not looking at FC Schalke’s Julian Draxler or Barcelona’s Cristian Tello regardless of the reports which have been circulating this month.

Wenger also suggested that it was unlikely his club would get any high profile business done before the end of the season, but that hasn’t stopped the rumour mill going into overdrive and linking the Gunners with plenty of potential deals ahead of the final week of the transfer window.

We’ve taken a look at the top five players linked with signing for Arsenal this week.

1) Jackson Martinez (FC Porto)

The Daily star reported that Jackson Martinez is ready to sign a new deal with FC Porto including a new, more expensive buy-out clause. That hasn’t stopped suggestions Arsenal could pay that buy-out clause to do a deal, more likely in the summer.

2) Julian Draxler (FC Schalke)

A January move to Arsenal doesn’t look possible but there are suggestions the Gunners could move for the German after the World Cup. He’d be an expensive and high profile signing but one Arsenal could certainly afford.

3) Mirko Vucinic (Juventus)

News broke earlier this week that the Juventus front man had stopped training with the Serie A side as he looked to get a move to Inter Milan. However, a swap deal for Fredy Guarin seems to have fallen through which means the Gunners could possibly do a deal before the close of play this time next week.

4) Yohan Cabaye (Newcastle United)

Cabaye was being linked with a big move to French giants PSG. However, the Metro has suggested the £21 million rated midfielder would prefer to stay in the Premier League, which may provide the Gunners with a chance to do the deal they couldn’t pull off last summer.

5) Cristian Tello (Barcelona)

Wenger denies scouting the Barca forward personally this week, as he hit a hat-trick for Barca in their Copa del Rey win against Levante. Arsenal could still approach him and offer him the prospect of more regular football at the Emirates Stadium.
