Struggling West Ham are poised to complete a double swoop from Italy with Antonio Nocerino and Marco Borriello both reportedly ready to sign.
Sam Allardyce has admitted the need to galvanise his squad as the Hammers face a long, hard battle for Premier League survival.
Roma striker Borriello is said to have given the go-ahead for a transfer and could arrive in London at the weekend, but Nocerino is already there to undergo a medical, according to the Corriere della Sera.
The 28-year-old has been forgotten somewhat at AC Milan and the pugnacious, hard-working midfielder is keen for a fresh start.
During his breakthrough season in 2011-12, many tipped Nocerino for the very top of the international game, but he has fizzled out in the tough environment of Milan.
Nocerino is arriving on loan until the end of the current campaign but West Ham will have first refusal on a permanent deal should he settle in.
The Neapolitan star has represented Italy at Under-19, Under-20, Under-21 and senior level as well as at the Olympic Games in Beijing.
