A round up of the latest transfer news about Newcastle United.
Newcastle’s planned deal for Montpellier star Remy Cabella is hanging in the balance. La Parisien football commentator Julien Laurens claims it’s down to agent problems.
“He doesn’t really have an agent and a number of people have tried to jump in on the deal and it’s been annoying to both Montpellier and Newcastle and to the player himself. Negotiations are at a standstill because so many people are trying to get in on the deal,” he told Talk sport.
Newcastle have been offered hope of retaining key midfielder Yohan Cabaye for the rest of the season. French giants PSG have been linked with a £21 million move for Cabaye but French source L’Equipe claims he’s had a change of heart over moving to Ligue One.
Newcastle winger Sylvain Marveaux is being linked with a loan move away from the club. French sides Sochaux and Rennes are thought to be keen on signing him before the close of the transfer window next week.
Another player being linked with a move away from St James Park is striker Papiss Cisse. A report has suggested that several sides have been out off by Cisse’s high wage deal at Newcastle but if the Toon swoop for Luuk de Jong from Borussia Monchengladbach, they may cut Cisse loose. Besiktas are favourites to land him on loan.
Several sources have claimed that Newcastle lead the race to land De Jong, with Ajax and PSV Eindhoven also interested.
“Luuk feels like he’s in the waiting room at the moment. He’s eager to sign for Newcastle but things are moving very slowly,” said a source close to the player’s father.
Dan Gosling is reportedly ready to call time on his career at Newcastle after returning to the club after a loan spell at Blackpool. However, boss Alan Pardew has hinted he would like to retain Gosling for the rest of the season.
“I just think I might keep Dan around and see how he goes. He did well at Blackpool,” said Pardew.
