The Bosnian playmaker has been in fine form this term, tallying three goals and four assists as a vital cog in Rudi Garcia’s acclaimed midfield trio.
Manchester United were most often mentioned as his greatest admirers abroad – requiring creativity in the centre of the park – but are now set to take on Juan Mata instead.
Paris St Germain have in turn been left as the main pursuer of the 23-year-old’s services, who has previously stated he is happy in the Italian capital and won’t even consider leaving in the next 18 months.
Sky Sport Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio has maintained that the Giallorossi are unwilling to even entertain talks for Pjanic this January – concentrated on locking him down to a new contract instead.
And PSG look to have struck a nerve with the Stadio Olimpico outfit, Les Parisiens boss discussing the midfielder as an object of desire in his Friday press conference.
“Pjanic possibly could be of interest in the winter transfer window,” he said.
“He could be an alternative to [Newcastle’s Yohan] Cabaye.”
“I will be happy if a midfielder comes in during this window; otherwise I will continue on with the same players.”
And Roma took to Twitter immediately to allay fears that Pjanic could be on his way out the door mid-season.
The response from the club was likely a reaction to fan backlash at Blanc ‘alleging’ he could have the Bosnia international.
Pjanic admitted to flattery at being linked with PSG earlier this week – citing the Paris giants as the only club he’d consider returning to France with – but reiterated his ties to the Giallorossi in the same breath.
