Arsenal transfer news: Nigerian wonderkids battle; £28m bid for Draxler readied

Julian Draxler

All the latest news and gossip from The Emirates this morning.

Arsenal chief scout Steve Rowley has been keeping tabs on a number of talented homegrown English players in the Championship recently.

Arsene Wenger has, in recent years, taken a liking to signing top British talent - with the likes of Aaron Ramsey, Carl Jenkinson and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all arriving from the Football League in recent years.

On this occasion it was Reading goalkeeper Alex McCarthy and Charlton Athletic utility man Jordan Cousins who were being watched as Wenger looks to improve the depth of his squad.

Arsenal are reportedly in a battle with Portuguese outfit Benfica for two outstanding Nigerian talents.

Musa Yahaya and Chidera Ezeh were two of the young stars who shined for the Super Eaglets at the under-17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates this summer - which they won.

The winger and striker are on both teams radar … as confirmed by their agent Ken Van Deyck:

“We are finalising a deal with Arsenal and Benfica, who I am talking to as exclusive European representative for both players”

No surprise that Julian Draxler has rocked up in the transfer news again. The German international is believed to be a target of Arsene Wenger’s - and rumours are abounding that Arsenal will try their best to convince Schalke to sell the player this month rather than in the summer.

Italian reports stated the club could agree a fee of £37 million this week for the player however the rumour mill states Arsenal may make a last ditch attempt to snap him up on Deadline Day for a fee believed to be in the region of £28 million.

Negotiations will reportedly continue over the weekend.
