Manchester United have been dealt another serious blow.
Despite the impending arrival of Juan Mata, Manchester United must feel nothing is going their way right now.
During their League Cup semi-final exit in midweek Michael Carrick limped off with an ankle injury, and the early diagnosis is not good.
The Telegraph report that Manchester United have learned the England international will be out for approximately one month.
It's a serious blow for the club, because the midfield man only just returned during the festive fixtures from an earlier six week injury absence.
United's midfield is already short of options, and with Anderson loaned out - this could be the kick the club need to push for an additional signing or two.
The paper claim that Inter Milan's Fredy Guarin is at the forefront of the club's consideration, with the Colombian's proposed transfer to Juventus being cancelled earlier in the week.
Inter Milan are however keen to sell, with prospective fees quoted variably between £10-18 million.
Carrick remains an important part of United's side, but this season has proved just how reliant they are on a player of his quality, with little to match him in the middle.
Fans of the club have naturally reacted with disappointment to the reports, here is a selection of what they had to say via Twitter.
