Monaco fans, Colombia fans and general football lovers will have winced at the sight of Falcao being stretchered off in pain in Monaco's 3-0 French Cup win at Chasselay Monts d'or Azergues.
It was understood Falcao had injured his left knee severely. It was not known at first how serious the injury would be, but now Monaco have confirmed their star striker will miss the rest of the season, and this summer's World Cup. On the Monaco website it said the player is suffering from trauma in the left knee with lesion of ligament anterior cruciate. Sky Sports reporter Pete O'Rourke and French football journalist Julien Laurens broke the news on Twitter to their followers.

Monaco will of course be devastated as this is a huge blow to their title ambitions this season. They currently sit in second place in Ligue 1 just five points behind reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain. Falcao has scored nine league goals for them this season.
It is also a huge blow for Colombia who will embark on their first World Cup since 1998 this summer. Falcao is of course a huge player for them, and the talismanic striker has 20 goals from his 50 international caps. The national side will now be relying on FC Porto striker Jackson Martinez to fire in the goals for them.
The World Cup is a wonderful event, and you want to see the best players involved in the competition. Many football fans were looking forward to seeing Falcao on the world's greatest stage. It was already a shame that Zlatan Ibrahimovic; one of the world's greatest strikers would not be in Brazil this summer, and now Falcao too, it's a huge blow. Gary Lineker expressed his dismay at the news.
What a terrible blow for Radamel Falcao. One of the games stars out of the World Cup! Real shame.

Monaco will now have to think twice about allowing Lacina Traore to leave on loan to Everton. They had just signed the giant striker from Anzhi Makhachkala and were willing to let him play in the Premier League for the rest of the season. Traore's work permit had already been granted for a move to The Toffess, but Monaco may pull the plug on the deal now.
