Inter in for Southampton record signing after unseemly incident - report

According to the Italian press, Inter could could move for Pablo Osvaldo after his suspension by Southampton.

The Italy international has a chequered disciplinary record – having an extensive history of dismissals and bust-ups with team-mates and coaches alike.

Osvaldo’s stint at AS Roma was characterised by a poor relationship with the club’s hardcore supporters in addition to those representing the club.

He was once suspended for punching now-Tottenham man Erik Lamela, whilst his final act at the Stadio Olimpico involved abandoning the Coppa Italia’s trophy presentation ceremony – later insulting then-head coach Aurelio Andreazzoli via Twitter.

The latest incident has dredged up memories of his altercation with the Argentine forward – having reportedly attacked team-mate Jose Fonte after taking issue with the defender’s treatment of him in training.

And with a two-week suspension levied by Southampton after an emergency hearing, Italian sources have claimed Osvaldo could be set for a quick exit from St Mary’s.

According to Sport Mediaset, Inter may now make a play for the striker before the end of January, satisfying boss Walter Mazzarri’s believed desire for an extra cover up front.

The Nerazzurri were linked with the ex-Roma man throughout the opening half of the season – with Tuttosport claiming as recently as a fortnight ago that the Milanese giants could swoop for his signature.

Southampton’s situation with Osvaldo – banned earlier this term for three games following a touchline scrap with Newcastle – appears increasingly awkward.

It remains to be seen whether the Saints will be willing to part with their £15m record signing just five months on from his arrival after Thursday’s episode.
