A selection of the latest transfer news and more surrounding Liverpool Football Club this Thursday morning.
There are appears to be conflicting reports regarding the deal involving Mohamed Salah with a report claiming yesterday evening that Liverpool had agreed a fee of around £10m with Basel, and indicating a medical could take place at Melwood today.
However, reports surfacing last night indicated that Chelsea were interested in hijacking the deal by outbidding the Reds with part of the money they are set to receive with Juan Mata leaving Stamford Bridge as he heads to Manchester United.
Liverpool are set to receive a fitness boost ahead of the Merseyside derby on Tuesday with Jon Flanagan returning to the full training. Flanagan is likely to play at left-back if fit enough by taking the place of Aly Cissokho. The 21-year-old could even feature in this weekend’s FA Cup clash against Bournemouth, and will feature in Tuesday’s huge clash with Everton as long as there is no adverse reaction to a hamstring injury.
Another fitness boost could come in the form of Lucas Leiva who posted on twitter last night that his injury isn’t as bad as first thought, saying he will be ‘back in a few weeks.’
Lucas was initially ruled out for up to two months the medial ligament damage he sustained during Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Aston Villa at Anfield.
Goalkeeping coach John Achterberg has echoed manager Brendan Rodgers’ words saying that Simon Mignolet will bounce back from his poor run of form which has included a couple of costly errors.
Achterberg told the club’s official website: ‘That is the life of a goalkeeper. If something doesn’t come off then 90% of the time it ends up in the back of the net.
‘Sometimes you get away with it and defenders help you out because they are part of the team, but that’s how it goes and you have to try and put it right in the next moment.’
