Schalke stars are making their case for Lewis Holtby to come back to Schalke.
Bundesliga side Schalke backtracked from links to Tottenham's Lewis Holtby earlier this week, yet their players have not got the message.
Schalke had concerns over their ability to finance the deal, but from a playing perspective, the German is certainly a player who would be welcome back at the club.
Prolific striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar was quizzed about the potential deal by German newspaper Bild, and remains keen on seeing his former teammate return.
He said: "Holtby would help us! He can play in midfield almost everywhere, defensively and offensively. Lewis has quality, and can always be useful to Schalke."
His sentiments were echoed by club captain Benedikt Howedes, who added: "He's a good player. If it fits for both sides, we would definitely (like to) help."
Holtby struggled to hold down a regular place under Andre Villas-Boas, featuring mostly in cup competitions.
Under new manager Tim Sherwood he has fared little better, playing just 63 minutes of Premier League football.
The midfielders' World Cup dream is certainly under threat, and he's likely to continue pushing for a deal, to Schalke or otherwise.
If the club's desire is similar to that of their players, we may see Schalke yet return and try to finance an offer or push for a loan deal.
