'Buy, Arsene, buy' - Piers Morgan Tweets response to imminent Salah and Mata deals

Piers Morgan

As Chelsea and Manchester United get ready to sign Mohamed Salah and Juan Mata respectively Piers Morgan believes Arsenal need to respond.

Arsene Wenger was speaking this morning about the clubs potential January transfer activity - and for those Gunners fans believing the club still need to buy this winter in order to win long awaited silverware this season it was bad news.

Wenger is not a fan of the January transfer window and he does not see himself changing those views for personal gain this year.

Here is what he said on potential incomings:

“It looks very unlikely. It is 23 January today and at the moment I must say we are not close to doing anything. I feel a bit guilty always going to a press conference during the transfer market and having nobody to announce (as a signing) but I don't want to lie. Overall we have a very strong squad. If something exceptional turns up we will do it but having said that not everybody will strengthen. They buy, but buy does not always mean strengthen."

Wenger is not keen on bringing in players without absolute need in the winter window - as prices are high and pickings are usually slim.

But in contrast two Premier League rivals have bought big today - or are at least on the verge of doing so.

Chelsea have agreed a fee believed to be in the £16 million region with FC Basel for ‘the Egyptian Messi’ Mohamed Salah. Meanwhile Juan Mata has flown into Manchester for a medical with the Premier League champions ahead of a £37 million.

So there are certainly options out there - as the arrival of Salah and Mata at their respective future clubs proves.

One man who thinks Arsenal need to buy, is their most Tweetable fan Piers Morgan.

He has been speaking for weeks now of his belief that The Gunners need at least one big signing in January to win the Premier League - as they are up against the squad depth of Manchester City and Chelsea in the battle.

And today, upon hearing news of the two big transfer stories today, he has made his thoughts clear on Twitter:
