Star's £21m release clause to tempt Wenger after impressing?

Cristian Tello

Arsene Wenger will have been mightily impressed by Barcelona's Cristian Tello this evening.

Arsene Wenger was in attendance at the Copa del Rey game last night between Levante and Barcelona, according to reports in Spain, and one player certainly will have caught his eye.

Wing-wizard Cristian Tello coincided Wenger's visit with his best game of the season, bagging a hat-trick as Barcelona won 4-1.

Tello recorded all five of his shots on target, created three goalscoring opportunities and completed 87 per cent of his passes in a dazzling all-round display.

He was aided of course by Lionel Messi who took a night off finding the back of the net himself, turning provider with three assists.

You can check out the highlights below:

The 22-year-old left-winger had scored just one goal all season before last night, and has been agitating over a lack of opportunities.

Spanish pundit Guillem Balague stated earlier this week he expected Tello to leave in the summer if he was not granted increased first team football, but the club are unwilling to sell this January, and the winger even said he wants to stick it out until summer.

Tello has a £21 million release clause in his contract, so Arsene Wenger knows exactly what he needs to do if he wants to sign the winger, capped just once by Spain last August.

Who Wenger went to watch in the first instance is still a mystery, if it was Tello then his timing was perfect. If it wasn't then you can be sure the Barcelona man is amid the forefront of his thoughts as he jets home.

Arsenal do need a winger to play out on the left to add balance to the team, with neither Santi Cazorla or Lukas Podolski natural fits for the position. He would certainly give the Gunners a different option in attack different to the players they currently possess.

We would not expect a deal to go ahead this January, and his hat-trick and incoming adulation from the Spanish press will surely give him more inspiration to give it one last crack.

He has made just two La Liga starts all season long, and if this is not the turning point, it may never come. Arsenal may well be waiting with open arms, and could yet try to force the issue.
