Rodgers keen to bring Basel winger Mohamed Salah to Anfield.

Liverpool have agreed a £10m deal for highly-rated winger Mohamed Salah, according to reports.

Basel winger Salah has been on Brendan Rodgers’ radar for some time, although the Reds manager was initially prepared to offer only £7m for the 21-year-old, a full £5m lower than the asking price.

But reported interest from Liverpool’s Premier League rivals Newcastle United appears to have forced Rodgers’ hand, with his bid increasing significantly as a result.

The Daily Express report that Liverpool have agreed a £10m deal with the Swiss champions for Salah, with the player only needing to undergo a medical at Melwood. The claims can be sourced to Egyptian website KingFut, who broke the news earlier this evening.

That being the case, he could even be in line to make his debut in this weekend’s FA Cup fourth round clash against Bournemouth.

Liverpool fans may question whether Liverpool need another attacking player, given that in recent weeks their defensive performances have been more of a concern.

But Rodgers has already suffered blows to his forward line this season, with Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez both missing games either through injuries or suspension, and Salah would provide a high-quality additional option.

Salah has been grabbing plenty of attention with some eye-catching displays for Basle this season, not least in the Champions League, when he scored home and away against Chelsea.

One particular quality that may appeal to Rodgers is Salah’s natural preference to play wider than most attacking forwards, providing genuine width.

With Rodgers generally playing either 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 this season, it would be no great challenge to slot Salah into the side. The youngster’s versatility would enable to him switch positions even during matches, a useful added weapon.
