Fiorentina are still looking to sign a defender in the winter transfer window and it seems Nemanja Vidic is going to get their undivided attention.
The Viola are looking to galvanise the squad for the second half of the campaign as they go in search of Champions League qualification.
Over the last few weeks, Fiorentina have been linked with Manchester United defender Vidic, whose contract expires at the end of the season, but AC Milan's Philippe Mexes was also in the frame.
The paper reports that although Fiorentina and MIlan had agreed a deal and Mexes was happy to move, his wage bill of around £3.2m per season was a stumbling block.
Vidic has been widely tipped to leave Old Trafford and could do so before June if the right offer comes in.
Fiorentina have already done business with Man United, bringing Anderson to the Stadio Artemio Franchi, and relations between the two clubs are good.
However, Fiorentina will also surely face the same problem with Vidic's personal terms as his wage demands were reportedly sufficient to send Napoli running earlier in January.
It may be that Fiorentina opt for a cheaper option and sign Everton defender John Heitinga instead.
