Montpellier President Louis Nicollin has ruled out a move for Newcastle target Remy Cabella this month.
In a bizarre turn of events, according to sources in France, Montpellier president Louis Nicollin has snapped over the reports saying that Newcastle had agreed terms for star player Remy Cabella.
Remy Cabella has been the standout player for the struggling French side this season. The 23-year-old has started 19 Ligue 1 games so far this campaign, scoring six goals and assisting a further three.
The former France U21 international boasts far more attacking ability than his current team-mates. His 47 shots on goal are 16 more than the next best, and his 42 key passes are a whopping 27 more than his fellow attacking players.
The interest in Louis Nicollin’s star player is undeniable, however the club president seems to be doing everything in his power to keep him out of Newcastle United's reach – at least until the summer.
‘I have no intention of paying enormous taxes this year, because the budget closes on the 30th June. I would prefer that he leaves on the 1st July, or later. Then, and only then, if there are good offers, that will allow us to have a great next season, especially if we are in Ligue 1.’
‘There is however no question about it happening now. I have heard everything in the last days. It is all baseless.’
He then went on to have an outburst against the Magpies, claiming that perhaps Newcastle aren’t the best club for his player – Yet the London sides are:
‘I think Newcastle are interested because they will definitely say yes to PSG for the money (Cabaye). But us, we are not stupid and to give Cabella for Cabaye to these English people, is rubbish!’
‘There is already one of us who is over there (Yanga-MBiwa) and I wish him all the best. I think that Remy deserves something else other than Newcastle. Me, personally, I would not go over there. You have to piss yourself over in Newcastle… in London, okay I understand.’
