Manchester United transfer news: Moyes to ignore Atletico offer and move for Mata?

Juan Mata

A select round-up of transfer stories relating to Manchester United

With the end of another transfer window drawing closer, it is fair to say not much has happened yet. And that may continue to be the case for Manchester United, or not, depending on which of the latest reports you believe.

The Times claims United are locked in advanced talks for Juan Mata, with a fee of £37million being reported.

These stories really took off yesterday, and have led to a whole host of claims and counter-claims from media outlets.

For example, the Telegraph claims Atletico Madrid are so keen on Mata that they are willing to offer David Moyes first refusal on both Diego Costa and Filipe Luis if United pull out of the race to sign the Chelsea man.

But the same report claims United are likely to refuse such an offer, and push ahead with the deal.

So what does Wayne Rooney make of all this? Well, according to the Sun “it doesn’t Mata” – see what they did there? – and the England striker will still refuse to sign a new deal at Old Trafford even if the Spaniard does swap London for Manchester.

And the Telegraph takes this one step further, claiming Real Madrid are considering a £25million summer bid for Rooney in an attempt to test United’s resolve to keep a man who will then be in the final year of his current contract.

So, lots happening and nothing happening all at once: just another normal day in the rumour mill.
