Liverpool latest: Salah incoming? Doubt over move for AC Milan enforcer

A round up of the latest news and transfer stories about Liverpool from the past 24 hours.

Liverpool are in advanced talks to sign Mohamed Salah from Basel, according to reports. Egyptian website KingFut report that the winger is on his way to the club for a medical, with a £10 million fee agreed between the two clubs.

Injured Liverpool midfielder Lucas has received support from Barcelona superstar Neymar. Lucas received a message from his fellow Brazilian following the news of his medial ligament injury.

“Hi mate, be strong; we are together. God bless you!” read the message.

Brendan Rodgers has backed Liverpool’s fearless brand of attacking football this season. The Reds have been one of the most entertaining teams to watch as they fight for a top four place by the end of the campaign. Liverpool are just ten goals behind Manchester City.

“I think it tells you we play with no fear. We’re a team that wants to be on the offensive and be creative – and the players don’t have a fear of that,” he told the club website.

Rodgers has backed under fire goalkeeper Simon Mignolet to rediscover his best form. Mignolet has seen a few errors creep into his game in recent matches but the manager is still backing him.

“Confidence wise it is important for me to lift all the players. And for Simon, it is something I will reinforce with him. He is still an outstanding goalkeeper but when you make those mistakes they get highlighted more as a keeper,” he told the Liverpool Echo.

In transfer news, ESPN has suggested that Liverpool were never interested in signing Nigel De Jong from AC Milan. The Dutchman has been suggested as a possible replacement for Lucas while he receives treatment on his knee injury, which keeps him out of the side.

Liverpool have been offered hope of signing Carlos Zambrano from Eintracht Frankfurt. The defender has turned down a new contract with the Bundesliga team and Liverpool have reportedly been scouting and monitoring his situation for well over a year.

Another former Liverpool target, Toby Alderweireld, has put the club on red alert by suggesting he’s not happy at Atletico Madrid. He’s started just three games for the Spanish club since a £6.1 million transfer from Ajax and Liverpool have been suggested as a future destination.

“I miss Ajax, their style of play, my ex-teammates - at Atleti, I can't be happy if I'm not playing. The team is doing well and I continue to fight for my place, but I don't think it's my fault,” he told Sport-1.

Reports continue to flood in that Newcastle United will make a move to sign Liverpool target Mohamed Salah. Liverpool have been tracking the FC Basel winger for some time but several reports suggest the Toon are considering a move for the £12 million rated Egyptian.

Liverpool target Valon Berisha says he’s unaware of any interest in him from the Merseyside club. Liverpool were reportedly watching the 20-year-old central midfielder in Salzburg’s recent friendly win against Bayern Munich.

“I know no more about this. Contact agent Jim Solbakken if you have any questions,” he told Rbnett.

In other news, Liverpool teenager Samed Yesil has suffered a second knee injury inside a year. He arrived in a £1 million deal from Bayer Leverkusen in 2012 but has suffered a huge setback with a second anterior cruciate ligament injury jeopardising his development.

Striker Luis Suarez has been named on the FTBPro PFA Fan Player of the Month shortlist for January. Liverpool fans have been encouraged to vote for Suarez through the club’s website.
