Edin Dzeko praised Sunderland after Phil Bardsley's late goal, only to see them pegged back a minute later.
Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko revelled in the late drama at Old Trafford.
Manchester United lost late onto Sunderland, but it certainly was not straightforward.
The Red Devils lost via a penalty shootout, but for a moment it appeared a Phil Bardsley goal at the end of extra time would clinch a win for Sunderland.
It led to Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko taking to Twitter to congratulate Sunderland, speaking slightly too soon.
Manchester United equalised one minute later via Javier Hernandez, causing City's Bosnian striker to backtrack a little.
This is why we all love football.. What a game! Penalties are 50:50, let see who will join as at Wembley!— Edin Džeko (@EdDzeko) January 22, 2014
A shocking penalty shoot-out, with United scoring just one of five attempts saw Sunderland clinch their place at Wembley, and Dzeko avoid a likely torrent of abuse from gloating fans of the club's rivals.
His teammate Aleksandr Kolarov post-game made sure to congratulate Sunderland 'keeper Vito Mannone.
