German star "honoured" by United interest - but Moyes may have to wait

The Premier League champions have been accredited with scouting Patrick Herrmann, who has spoken about the link.

Manchester United are working hard in the January transfer window to add quality to David Moyes’ squad, with a reported bid for Juan Mata gathering some traction.

Another midfield star that is reportedly in the Manchester club’s gaze is promising Borussia Monchengladbach winger Patrick Herrmann.

It has been reported that the Old Trafford outfit have been scouting a number of German sides, with the 22-year-old one of the players that the English outfit are evaluating.

Herrmann discounted the potential for a move away from the Bundesliga this January, but did admit that United’s interest is an honour.

"It, of course, honours me to be linked to such a club," Herrmann told Rheinische Post.

"But a winter transfer is absolutely no issue for me. I feel fine here at Borussia, we are playing an outstanding season."

"You should never say never. But the Bundesliga is one of the strongest leagues in the world."

Sparkling performances domestically have caught the eye of a number of big European sides, while the winger has also starred for German age-grade sides, most recently the under-21’s.

David Moyes has recently admitted that some of the players he is interested in are not currently available, with a wait until the summer potentially necessary.

In the case of highly rated Herrmann, the Monchengladbach winger may be one that United could revisit at the end of the season.
