Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye has been in superb form recently - with his individual performance against West Ham last weekend perhaps the best of his season so far.
It is a far cry from the summer - when Cabaye was on the verge of leaving the club for a move to Arsenal and found himself out of the Newcastle team while his ‘mind was not in the right place - you know, one of those clichéd statements managers say when a player wants to leave.
But Newcastle stood firm - and made it clear that Cabaye was going nowhere - which he didn’t.
And he has gone on to prove himself a valuable member of the team and one of the best players in his position in the Premier League.
Problem is, that has awoken a sleeping giant in his pursuit.
Paris Saint-Germain are being regularly linked with his signature - and certainly have the money to make Mike Ashley and Joe Kinnear go weak at the knees.
The Ligue 1 champions are said to want reinforcements in the heart of midfield - so that they can continue to fight the good fight on both a domestic and continental scale in 2014.
And Cabaye, a regular French international, fits the bill.
However one man who simply cannot see the deal happening is former PSG player Gregory Coupet. The ex-France goalkeeper - who finished his illustrious career at the Pars des Princes in 2011 - has been speaking in France about a potential switch to the capital for Cabaye - and made it clear that he thinks Cabaye should stay put:
“He is still a player who has a clear place in his club and has a World Cup looming as well. PSG, I cannot imagine. He will not play 100% matches whereas at Newcastle he is guaranteed to be on the team-sheet. What is certain is that Laurent Blanc and PSG are looking for players with a technical background. This course is between Yohan Cabaye and Miralem Pjanic , they have the technical level. There was also talk of Eden Hazard for a little while ... For us it is interesting.”
