Chelsea transfer news: American report says 'provisional deal' agreed with United over Mata

A round up of the latest transfer stories about Chelsea.

An American report has claimed that a provisional deal to sell Juan Mata to Manchester United has been agreed.

NBC Sports has reported that a huge $65.8 million deal has been agreed in principal between Chelsea and Manchester United.

The 25-year-old is being strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford before the end of the transfer window next week.

However, it’s not all good news for United with the Mirror reporting that Chelsea target Wayne Rooney will not sign a new deal with the Premier League champions any time soon.

Rooney’s current deal expires in 2015, which means United will shortly intensify negotiations to get the forward committed to a longer contract.

Rooney is thought to be waiting to see who David Moyes brings in before deciding whether to sign a new deal, which means Chelsea could pounce for him in the summer.

Chelsea remain the favourites to land Saint-Etienne youngster Kurt Zouma this month.

Chelsea have been offered fresh hope of completing a deal after Zouma said he wouldn’t joint his current side’s rivals Lyon.

“I could not play for that team, even if they offered me £15m a year. If I went to Lyon, I feel I would be betraying Saint-Etienne and its fans,” he told Vert Foot.
