Santi Cazorla has suggested Iker Casillas should look away from Real Madrid for more regular football.
Arsenal star Santi Cazorla has encouraged Real Madrid star Iker Casillas to look for football away from Real Madrid.
The experienced Spaniard has found himself confined to Champions League and domestic cup appearances at the Spanish club, with Diego Lopez becoming the regular starter in La Liga games.
Casillas has been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal in the past and despite the recent new contract for Wojciech Szczesny he would still be a world class addition to Arsene Wenger’s squad.
“Casillas should try playing somewhere else,” Cazorla told beIN Sport.
Regardless of the fact Casillas would make Szczesny a better goalkeeper and the number of benefits he would guarantee for the Gunners, a move to North London is doubtful for several reasons.
If signed, he’d rightly be behind Szczesny in the pecking order which is something he won’t want considering he’s played second fiddle to Lopez in the recent past.
He’s also on a very long deal with Real Madrid, until 2017, and he’s one of the Spanish club’s most popular players.
That means he holds financial value even though he’s 32-years-old and whether Wenger would be willing to shell out for an older goalkeeper, in what could be a relatively expensive deal, is highly questionable.
Casillas has friends at Arsenal but whether he ends up at the club in the summer is debatable.
