There are no shortage of headline grabbing transfer rumours doing the rounds at the moment, but what were people talking about this time last year? What were the stories creating that buzz of excitement as fans got ready for a long second half to the season.
‘Arsenal look at Celtic star’
Arsenal were linked with 21-year-old Celtic star Victor Wanyama before he completed a permanent move to Southampton.
The Daily Mail led with a report which suggested the Gunners would go up against Fulham to land the holding midfielder who was one of Celtic’s most consistent players last season.
The Saints eventually did a deal worth £12.5 million.
‘Chelsea in pole position to sign Modric’
Chelsea were reportedly in a great position to sign Luka Modric from Real Madrid, with a potential £33 million deal on the cards.
Modric was voted as the worst signing of the season in a poll conducted by Spanish newspaper Marca, with Arsenal, Spurs and Manchester United also linked with moves for the Croatian.
Modric stayed put as Jose Mourinho departed for Chelsea and has been one of Real’s most consistent players this season.
‘United agree staggering Zaha deal’
The Mirror led with a report which reported Manchester United agreeing a £15 million deal with Crystal Palace for winger Wilfried Zaha.
Zaha met Sir Alex Ferguson the night before, with the deal being made up of £10 million up front and an extra £5 million based on appearances and achievements.
Palace will still be waiting for the majority of that extra £5 million as Zaha has struggled at Old Trafford following Ferguson’s retirement.
