Newcastle United Transfer Latest: Deal for Montpellier star could rest on Hatem Ben Arfa's future

A round up of the latest transfer stories and rumours about Newcastle United.

Paris Saint-Germain continue to be linked with an imminent bid for Newcastle star Yohan Cabaye. Reports have been floating around over a potential £21 million bid for the French midfielder although no official offer has yet been made.

Manager Alan Pardew has revealed that the current transfer window is making him nervous in relation to the idea that the Frenchman could walk away from the club.

“All the transfer windows as manager of Newcastle are nervy and I will be nervous until it closes. Everybody is for sale at some price, but we’re conscious that we have a good team and we will try to keep it together. Yohan has almost a free role in the number ten shirt and he has enjoyed that,” said the Toon boss.

Newcastle are reportedly close to a deal for Montpellier star Remy Carbella but a deal may have to wait. Negotiations appear to be ongoing after Montpellier chairman Laurent Nicollin went back on claims that a deal had been agreed for the 23-year-old to join Newcastle at the end of the season.

The deal could rest on Hatem Ben Arfa heading the other way on loan, with Montpellier coach Rolland Courbis keen on the Newcastle winger and attacking midfielder. Mercato 365 claims Ben Arfa is one of two to three players Courbis wants to replace Carbella.

Newcastle also continue to be linked with a move for Borussia Monchengladbach forward Luuk De Jong. A report which still links Newcastle with De Jong has also suggested Newcastle could potentially upset Liverpool by moving for FC Basel winger Mohamed Salah.

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew is not panicking as he strives to do a permanent deal for striker Loic Remy.

“The plan was always that he would be on loan for the year and we had a deal with QPR that would be the case. We would like to do it permanently but there is a long way until that happens,” said the United boss.
