Mario Gotze picked up an ankle knock in the recent friendly against Salzburg.
Bayern Munich have received further bad news after influential midfielder Mario Gotze was sent for a medical examination on an ankle problem.
The former Borussia Dortmund star was taken off at half-time during Bayern’s 3-0 defeat at Salzburg and promptly sent for checks to ensure the problem wasn’t more serious.
He becomes the third Bayern Munich player to have picked up some form of knock while the German sides have endured their winter break following knee problems to Bastian Schweinsteiger and David Alaba.
The report on Sport Bild carries no information on how the exam went or the extent of the injury but Bayern Munich have a Bundesliga clash this Friday against Borussia Monchengladbach.
“Mario Götze had to cancel his visit to see Bayern fans so he could be at a medical examination,” reads the tag for the report in Sport Bild.
There should be an update before that game on the fitness of Gotze and whether he’s likely to play any part in proceedings.
Bayern have a big clash against Arsenal next month in the Champions League but it would take a serious injury to keep the 21-year-old from playing any part in that mammoth clash against the Gunners.
It’s simply a case of watch this space.
