Sebastian Coates is closing on a return to former club Nacional. The Uruguayan suffered a cruciate ligament injury and could be allowed to return to his former side on loan as he continues his rehabilitation.
“It would be beautiful to join Nacional and complete my recover in Uruguay with family and friends,” said the defender.
Tiago Ilori secured his loan deal to Granada earlier this week.
Lucas has been ruled out for two months with injury, and will certainly miss big games against Everton and Arsenal and possibly Manchester United. The pressure will increase on the owners now to provide funds for Liverpool to buy a defensive midfielder to avoid the Reds losing momentum in their Champions League push.
Brendan Rodgers has told fans to expect a completely different Liverpool for the Merseyside derby to the one, which laboured to a 2-2 draw against Aston Villa last weekend at Anfield.
“He will know how I work and knows how my teams work. But he will know it will be a totally different game here for the derby. It wasn’t one of our better days (against Villa), but we’ve had many great games here,” Rodgers told the Daily Post.
Liverpool defender Kolo Toure has backed goalkeeper Simon Mignolet to produce some of his best form over the second half of the season. Mignolet has seen five goals go into his net over the side’s last two games but the experienced defender isn’t worried.
“Simon will get through it as he is really strong mentally. I told him that the life of defenders and goalkeepers is like this,” Toure told the Liverpool website.
In transfer news, The Mirror has suggested that Brendan Rodgers is eyeing up a move for AC Milan defender Nigel De Jong. The former Manchester City man is reportedly seen as ideal cover for Brazilian Lucas, who picked up a knee injury in the recent draw against Aston Villa at Anfield.
Another high profile player the Reds remain linked with is Hernanes of Lazio. The Serie A club’s president Claudio Lotito has said a reported £15 million fee won’t be enough to land the playmaker.
“I do not want to sell him, we will have to receive an indecent offer - £15 million will not be enough,” said Lotito according to TalkSport.
Spanish side Valencia have reportedly been looking at the option of signing out of favour Liverpool forward Iago Aspas. According to pro-Valencia newspaper Super Deporte, the La Liga side are keen to do a deal with Liverpool who are reluctant to lose their back up to Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge.
A more common transfer rumour has repeated itself with Liverpool still linked with FC Basel winger Mohamed Salah. The Daily Post has reiterated recent reports that Rodgers is going all out to make a deal for the ‘Egyptian Messi’ happen before the end of next week.
However, reports today have suggested that Newcastle United are in line to try and hijack that move, with a potential bid for the wide man of around £12 million. Local Liverpool newspaper, the Echo, has suggested that the Toon are preparing to make a move for the Swiss based star.
